The Jahova's Witnesses believe that your soul stays in limbo until the time for you to stand before Jesus and God and be judged and once judged then you either live out your new life on earth in a perfect world and most of the other religions believe that you go to Heaven or Hell / Cast into the lake of eternal fire.

I had a near death experience when I was quite young. I saw all the usual phenomenon, tunnel, bright lights, voices, etc. However, my gut instinct tells me that what I experienced was just a dying brain. The soul, my awareness, the ego that is I, is in reality a biochemical/neurological conversation whose envelope I perceive as thoughts. Mainly because we all carry on a conversation in our heads.
When we die, the conversation stops and decomposition begins.
There is nothing else because our substance was born of the stars and, in time, that is where we will return. As long as our DNA continues, a portion of us lives on in another person.

Nothing.
Things like after death and all are imaginations and religious at best. Since there is no good way to justify problems and at times suffering of innocent people in this age, they all say punishment is after death. Heaven and Hell are controllers to keep people sane and under religious virtues. To be good now, will give you heaven after death is one of ways to make selfish human understand to do good.

What really happens is just like what happens here and now. Heaven is not attained just because you believed you died. Here you are on a journey leading to good or evil. Master evil with good and the results will shock you.

I think we wait somewhere; whether with our bodies or in limbo, until all of the things in the bible take place and then, every soul is brought to the judgement seat of God where we either God to the heaven or hell.

To search for a truth that cannot be known is not folly. It is of the highest order of vocations for humanity. It is a search for wisdom. Believe what you must to make yourself most comfortable with death but don't stop looking for that unattainable answer.

Without proof, an afterlife is just fanciful thinking. The belief in an afterlife cussions us from the harsh reality of our utter death and annihilation.
