well my husbands deployed in the army at the moment and when he comes back im planning on a little surprise but nothing too hectic as no doubt he will be tired.
But im putting up homemade welcome home banners downstairs (you could do happy 1st anniversary) along with a cake and a few snacks, we've bought and wrapped him a present for everyday that he has been away, as a way to prove that everyday we were thinking of him. so we can celebrate with our kids. Then Im blowing up 150 balloons and putting them in our bedroom, ive got 300 cut out love heart shapes to throw about the bedroom and loveheart banners. so he wont see them till we go bed (when kids are out the way) then hopefully ill get a little surprise of my own!!
hope this has given you a couple of ideas.
THREE AND A HALF WEEKS TILL THE LOVE OF MY LIFE COMES HOME!!

Here is something cute and meaningful that you can do, only for someone who is very very very special to you (I gather from what you said that this must be the case). I promise you she will love this!
1) Print a few pictures of you and her, or of places or things that remind you of special moments.
2) Buy a photo album (not the kind where you have to stick the pictures with glue, but with slots where you can insert the pics and move them around).
3) Behind each picture, write one reason why you love her. Then put the pics in the album.
4) On the first page of the album, write her a little text and slip in some hints that would lead her to look in the back of each picture. (your inspiration here!)
So at first she should be really glad to receive an album with pics of you both.
Either she sees the "special" side of the album right away,
either, when you can't resist it anymore, you ask her what's so special about this album. You tell her there is something that makes it different from any other album and she has to find out.
That's how one surprise becomes a double-surprise.
VARIANT if you don't have a lot of pictures available but still v. romantic:
Get a hard-cover, nice notebook. On each page, write one reason why you love her.
I hope this will help you, and if you find any other interesting variant please tell me about it!

Book a weekend away. Depending on what suits your budget and preference , you could either do a city break in London, Paris or Edinburgh. Or if you prefer the countryside you could book a bed&breakfast or a little cottage (self-catering).
If you want it to be a surprise you could tell your partner to pack her bags for a getaway (specify how many days/nights, what weather to be prepared for, and if she needs any formalwear). I'd plan on having a really nice meal with her at some point. It's best to research restaurants in the area you plan to visit and make a reservation! And over dinner give her a gift, probably a nice piece of jewelry.
All this could get pretty costly, but what's important to most women is knowing they are adored and cherished--and that is completely free. So no matter what you end up doing to celebrate your relationship make sure that she knows that.

Do you mean your first year together as a pair or your first wedding anniversary either way a nice meal somewhere special would be nice, if money is a problem have a romantic evening in with a take away and a bottle of wine. Or push the boat out and have a weekend away. Hope you have a good time.
