He's due December 19th and Christmas is shortly after that. For Christmas we usually get together with a large group of people I was just wondering if it would be safe for him to be around all those people?

I'll tell you what my doctor told me....The minute you take your baby out of the hospital they are already exposed to all the germs. He told me to go ahead and take the baby out, just be cautious of those who are holding or touching.....and yes it is okay to not let people hold the baby!

Come on mama, he'll be fine!!! Just be sure you'll have a quiet/private place to take him for changing, sleeping, and nursing/feeding and avoid cigarette smoke. Most people have the sense not to go near a baby if they've got a cold or something. Best wishes!

It's safe, Especially if you breast feed because that helps to build their immune system. Just ask people to please wash their hands before they hold him. Most people respect this request. I always kept mine wrapped in a blanket, so as not to have too much contact. Lessens the chance of a cold.

It may be too exhausting for both of you depending on when you really do deliver, but as long as no one is really ill and you dress the baby appropriately it will be fine.

My daughter was born on Dec. 11th, and I took her to our family Xmas party that year. But, I kept her in her carrier while "showing her off" to limit the number of people who held her. It is cold/flu season - presumably someone who's sick wouldn't ask to hold her anyway, but you can always ask anyone who wants to hold her to wash their hands first.

Don't worry about it. Enjoy the holiday season with your son. I am having another son in late Jan. And I plan to be out and about with in a few days of his birth. My first son was rasied in a pet store and his first day there he was 6 days old. He is very happy and healthy. Germs are everywere. You can't excape them. So, don't worry about it.

I was told by my doctor, not to have the baby in a crowd for 6 weeks, not even at church,, so many germs in the air, and their little immune system,is not that good.

Save any health problems or issues that may crop up after birth, it will be fine. Don't tire yourself or the baby out, though.

I was out shopping with my daughter when she was 4days old!! As long as he's healthy at birth, there's nothing wrong with it. She's 7 mos now and only once she's had a slight cough and boogers, but she caught that cold from me.
