Work up to a 50 mile bike ride. This will speed up your metabolism and long after your off the bike your body will be humming along. On the way to riding your fifty you will develop your cardio/vascular system, pulminary power, leg power, and overall endurance. Plus you'll drop weight on the way and you rediscover the joy of cycling.
I'm a few months shy of 50 and have a non resting heartrate of 48 bpm. Resting is around 36. Cycling did this. Lance's resting is 28.

eat non - fatty foods roughly every two hours
start with bran flakes - or a non sugary breakfast that you like.
2 hours later have a piece of fruit
2 hours later a yoghurt
lunchtime - whatever you like that is not full of fat and sugars.
2 hours later another piece of fruit or yoghurt
teatime - a bit like lunchtime
2 hours later - fruit
it is recommended that 3 pieces of fruit and 2 low fat yoghurts OR 5 pieces of fruit OR 3 low fat youghurts for a daily allowance.
also have slice of bread or 100cals worth of crackers as this helps with fibre.
if eating lots of pasta, rice or noodles drink lots of water as this will stop you getting constipation.
because you are eating every 2 hours your body knows it is going to get fuel - so it starts to burn it off instead of storing it. good luck.

I've said it before an' I'll say it again....lots of chicken vindaloo! But just substitute the lager with water. And if it's waste you want, well, make it hot enough and you'll be vindaloo all day! Sorry, couldn't resist that one!
