No, they believe it gets them votes.
Democrats have ruled over poor people over the last 40 years since they consolidated votes of poor people and they have done nothing for the poor.
In fact, the housing projects and welfare programs have made things worse.
The public schools are run for the benefit of teacher unions (who give millions of dollars to Democratic politicians) while poor and minority students languish.

I guess I've been sleeping under a rock for the past six years, but I see no evidence that poverty does not exist under the G.O.P. It's getting to be like India, where there's a caste system -- the very wealthy, and the poverty-stricken. There's no middle class. It's almost getting to that point here. Why blame the democrats? They've been out of office the whole time the unemployment lines, homeless shelters and soup kitchens have proliferated, while big business and industry continues to prosper.

This war on poverty is really scary, too. I mean, they might make the poverty so mad that it attacks us again!
And if Bush is really serious about it, why doesn't he go to the front lines and fight the poverty himself? But no, he created this war just so he could have an excuse to go after poverty. Poverty didn't attack us on 9/11!
Do you know how hard that was to write with a straight face?

When the Repukes START class warfare with no-bid contracts, tax abolition for the rich and other policies that are calculated to destroy the middle class, do you think that is the only case where passifism will work? Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

Get a brain, most of those that are living below the poverty level do not even vote except in red states where they do and vote for whatever their pastor says.

Most people have things in their past - you can move and grow from your past and that shouldn't be held against you for your entire life --

We believe that class warfare is going on right now, and the rich are winning and the middle class is losing. If you don't see it then maybe you can apologize to your grandkids when it becomes so obvious you can't ignore it.

No. They do not want to end poverty. If that were to happen, they would not be able to tell us we need to throw more money at it.

I do believe that keeping an impoverished class keeps Democrats in power.
You can look at their own campaign ads and see that.
