Ah, this is a good question. Had the same thing happen to me. Unfortunately, you just have to deal with it. Once people get the notion in their head that you are dating even though you said no, they are going to think it and probably that you are just keeping it a secret. It's inevitable. There is nothing you can do unless you two stop hanging out with each other or one of you gets in a relationship with someone else. The "stop hanging out" idea is a bad one, and who cares what other people think anyway? If you two are best friends, then it doesn't matter at all. :)

If you know what the real story is, don't let it bug you. Once you've been in that kind of friendship, it makes perfect sense, but if people haven't had that kind of friendship, they think you have to be dating. Americans tend to only believe in romantic love, not love out of friendship or appreciation.

well. I guess you either accept the fact you guys put off the 'we-are-a-couple' vibe and look into it...or you continue to tell people they have been mistaken.
I could get into the psychology behind why you have a problem with people assuming you two are a couple when you say it is not the case, but you are not after that information.

Why are you making it so complicated? Just simply smile and say 'we're just 'hangin'. and go on and have a good time. If they push or comment, just don't say any more back. You have already said it. Smile and be a happy person. One day--you might be really dating this cool dude!

Keep being friends. Dont worry about what other people think. As long as you guys are happy then good for you.
