You must first understand what simile, metaphor and personification are.

Similie: Saying something is like something else. "The water on the lake shined LIKE a mirror in the moonlight."

Metaphor: Not literally, but reflects the MEANING of somethng else. "His hand was lightening striking my face." Someone's hand is not literal lightening. Do you see the metaphor?

Personification: Applying human attributes to something that is not human. Animals talking is a simple example. Also, something like: "The branches of the tree were spread out in anger, wanting to strike the woodchopper as he struck with his ax."

Do the tree branches really have angry feelings? No. But this is personification used to describe the seen in a more powerful way.

Now, take your story and assignment, use your imagination, be creative, and I know you will come up with something.

Good Luck!

Metaphor- comparing one thing to another without using like or as
Personification- giving an inanimate object human or animal characteristics

A sea of faces filled the stadium grounds(Metaphor)
