I dont understand how this has come about, as sleeping has nothing to do with the sex act.

I totally agree with you. It does not make any sense at all because when I talk to people and say something about people sleeping together everyone always assumes they had sex which was not what I meant at all. I think it just became a more polite way for adults in particular to say having sex because first of all they usually sleep together after the sex and second of all I think it became common when woman wanted to tell their friends about their aquintences and leave out all the details. It just a casual way to say having sex I guess.

RAPE!! I don' t know what the hell he was thinking. What goes through people's minds? Girl you have got the best support ever. From your mom and everyone. You should not let someone take over your body like that no matter what.Heck he could possibly hurt others. You'll be thanking yourself later on. Sometimes you have to let go of the ones you love(your friend) in order to help them (just in case he might for some crazy reason dislike you after all this). Sounds stupid but by being his friend you are going to tell the court about this. This is the time to regain for yourself. For you to basically start over.

Sleeping with someone is a phrase brought in to common usage by Hollywood and TV in the days when mentioning sex was banned. So instead of saying 'I had sex with him' (which would cause the film to be banned) the phrase 'I slept with him' came in instead on the assumption that if a man and woman shared a bed to the point of going to sleep for the night then they would have been intimate enough to have had sex. The phrase is still in popular use in films and TV today and used by people who don't like using more explicit terms. Even in the bible the sex act is disguised by describing it as 'lying with each other' from which we get the expression 'being laid'.

Just a more 'socially acceptablel' way of saying 'having sex'. Silly, really. Not a lot of actual sleeping goes on.

(-: I feel like a sexual goddess, now. To me, you put two healthy, consenting adults in the same bed to sleep (and they are compatible sexually), thoughts of sex are going to go through someone's head.

I dunno. I really like the term "sleeping with someone." It implies something leisurely and not hurried -- trust to actually sleep with someone before or after the act, and maybe a commitment. Other euphemisms for sex are not quite so comforting and elegant.
