1) Oil - Until we get off of our asses and work on our nuclear power for civilian uses (heating, lights etc) and work on our OWN resourses (offshore drilling, Alaska, coal etc) we will be held hostage by these maniacs.
Until such a time when we have energy independence, this area of the world will continue to hold us in a economic chokehold.
And before we go TOO nuts here....
What party consistently votes AGAINST nuclear power in the United States and votes AGAINST drilling offshore and in Alaska. Though it's okay for the frikken CHINESE to do it 50 miles off of our coast.

You're wondering why the Middle East is important to the political powers in the world? Some would say that oil has something to do with it. I for one, think it's definitely a place to be carefully watched, since it is one of the hot spots in the world, where fighting and terrorism is the way of life. We certainly don't want any Middle East country, with the exception of Israel, to gain power over the rest of the world. Israel would not willingly do that, but they would be a powerful ally if only the rest of those countries would quit taking from them, terorrizing them, or threatening to wipe them off the face of the earth. If every Middle East country would pattern themselves after Israel, what a wonderful world this could be.

This region gives liberals and both parties something to argue about. It appears that democrats and liberals have a very naive view of the culture while the Republicans do not have the guts to ignore media propaganda and do what is needed to meet this culture on terms that they will understand. It appears that the naive democrats and liberals believe that this culture should be allowed to have rights in this country - yet do not realize what is in store for anyone who does not become muslim. They will perish. As an american who works in this region more often that I would like and who grew up there as well....I say this knowing that I will have to move out of the USA one of these days because the weakminded and naive will not defend me.

Read the "Idiots guide to the Middle east" that is not a slam, that is the real name of the book.
It is one of the idiots guide book series.
It will take from before Abraham all the way to present day. Very informative easy to read, and interesting. Explains all.

Very simple... OIL. everyone wants it. they have it.
Also, it is a site of religion. All the worlds religions seem to think the middle east belongs to them.
No of them get that religion was created a long time ago to control the masses and for no other reason.
