I am living in a two bedroom apartment in the midwest. I really can't do anything building wise, but any tips or tricks would be helpful. Thanks!

I work for a Natural Gas Company. The advice we give people is to cut back your thermostat to about 65 degrees while you are up and around 60 degrees while you are sleeping. Insulating your windows and doors also helps. You can get that clear window plastic at Wal-Mart pretty cheap and it is very effective. Make sure you don't have any drafts and if you do, stop them up with something. Wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts while lounging around helps. When you are cooking, cut back your thermostat too. Your oven should warm up your house pretty well also.

If you have neighbors on all sides of you, your heating bill will be less if you turn off your heat while you're not home. There are other things you can do to save on electricity. You can put your hot water heater on a timer and have it turn on a couple of hours before you shower and off after you have gone to bed. Use your oven sparingly. Try cooking on the stove or in the microwave most of the time. Make sure that all your windows and doors seal up well. If you have exhaust fans in the kitchen or bathroom, block them and don't use them except when absolutely necessary.

I was told this by a maintenance guy that works in my apartment complex.
This is kind of unsightly, but if you're really needing to save money, you'll try it!
Buy a roll of thick clear plastic from Home Depot/Loews/etc. Cover your windows on the inside, but leave room between the glass and the plastic. The adherence factor is up to you: nails, duct tape, clear packing tape, etc. Just make sure it's really secure and mostly sealed.
Hope this helps... stay warm!

weatherize it, this w/e go to home depot or lowes or whereever you go and get some chaulk. There are different colors to match your decor. But first you want to inspect your window to make sure u need chaulk, the purpose of the chaulk is to seal any cracks you might have in and around your window seal. Your window seal is the part of your that doesn't move or better yet, the frame that you window sits inside of. Any cracks need to be sealed. For the part of your windows that do move you can gat some saran wrap and a hair dryer and seal them. Tear a piece of saran wrap off, lay it across the place you want to seal and blow on it with your hair dryer, the heat will create a bond with the saran wrap and your window, to keep. these are simple little things to do to weatherize your place, also there are companies who will come in and do this for u, for a fee of course.

I have to put towels on the window sills and by the bottom of the door to keep the draft out. Also, keep your thermostat on 68 and turn on a ceiling fan. Youd be very happy if it was 68 outside.

Thick Jumpers, keep heating to 18 degrees. Only heat the rooms you need when you need. A timer and thermostadt required. Oh and draft excluders for all doors

get a relatively small space heater (try overstock). That way, you're only heating the space you're using and not an entire apartment. Saves on costs, and heaters use electricity and not gas so they're cheaper

Why don't you buy an electric heater...where you can bringing with you where you go into different rooms in your apartment. We also live in an apartment and that's what we do.
And also wear cozy pijamas to keep your warm.
Good luck!!
