Connect the DSL modem up to the wireless router, and the desktop to the router by cable and the laptop wirelessly. Hey presto! Some routers even have built in firewalls.

Your question was never completed. If it is what I am thinking, connect it through the wire. That will run at 100mbps. If you use wireless 54g, then the connection will be 54mbps if you have an older wireless, then the connection is 'B' which will be 11mbps.
