perform join-up with her. she might have some respect issues. she also might a little scared of people. that's why she is afraid of having her feet handled, a rug put on, being brushed, not following you into her stall and anything else. you need to spend a lot of time with her. not riding just being with her. keep trying to bond with her. talk to some horse trainers that do join-up. take lessons on a lesson horse instead of your horse. a lot of times when you are confident your horse will become confident.

Unless you want to get hurt or pay someone else to re-break her I suggest you sell her. Unfortunatly this does happen. They probably lied to you because they are scared to ride her too, and were looking for a quick way out. I don't know what you paid for her but be prepared not to get what you paid back. Horses that are not broke or bomb proof won't bring much $500 at the most maybe a little more or less. But I would chalk it up to a lesson learned. When I buy a horse I want a chance to ride the horse before I buy if an owner won't allow this then I'm not interested. Any owner willing to sell a horse should be willing to let you ride it before you talk about price. If they won't allow you to ride it around the yard before you buy then there is something they don't want you to know about the horse.

this question can be addressed several ways, first the horse may have been mistreated in the past and have a trust issue with people, I can give you an example, I bought a beautiful jet black mare who was very gentle with males but when a woman tried to get around her she would seemly go wild, after seeking background info on this horse I discovered she was severely mistreated by a woman and therefore mistrusted all females. The first thing you must do is gain the horse's trust and not show fear of it,horses are quite smart and sense fear in humans.Work slow and try to be around this horse every day for a set amount of time.Working in a round-pen with it is an excellent way,you let the horse exhaust itself while having it in a enviroment you can control, each time the horse does what you want give it a treat and NEVER yell or show excessive force , this gains the horse's trust with you......GOOD LUCK

I agree with Isis. Sounds like you have been taken advantage of. This is not a good horse to have as your first. Especially when you are already becoming afraid. The horse has issues that needs professional attention and hopefully will get it. Find a trainer or someone who would like to take the horse on and see if they know of another horse that's right for you. Trainers have many contacts and may be able to help you out.

Sounds like you need some help-- now that you're intimidated you're going to act scared and she will feed off your nerves.

BOMBPROOF just means that she doesn't spook. It doesn't mean she is good for the farrier or that she'll go into a box stall.

Why not start with a lot of ground work to build trust-- leading, lunging, etc. Then get the help of someone more experienced to get on her the first time.

I know the feeling! I'm too old, outta-shape and outta breath to go falling off horses, I have 4...
Try calling around to find out who trains horses and ask if they will let you watch them work a horse, tell them that you're having problems with a new horse and need a little advise. Most of the time they'll welcome you and help as much as they can. Good Luck!!

You may have bought what is referred to as a green broke horse, That is a horse that is marginally tame. Be careful, It can hurt you.Horse traders have a reputation of not being the most credible people. Next time you buy a horse, be certain that you get everything in writing so that you have civil recourse if the horse is not as represented.

The longer you leave her the harder she will be. Do not be scared of her, she can read your mind and this makes her power full. When yoiu talk to her whisper, this will make her curious, they are nosey creatures, challenge her. Hide sugar, apples, celery in your pockets. Out think her and she will end up being putty in your hands

YOU GOT RIPPED OFF. PEOPLE LOVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF INEXPERIENCED NEW HORSE PEOPLE. CONTACT A REPUTABLE TRAINER OR RIDING INSTRUCTOR IN YOUR AREA. SEE IF THEY WILL BUY THIS HORSE FROM YOU, OR HAVE A MORE APPROPRIATE HORSE TO TRADE. A TRAINER MIGHT BE ABLE TO WORK THE BUGS OUT.
