we do it by pubs, intead of telling the name of the actual streets they should follow?!!

i can smell a pub two miles away

Personally I am a landmark driver, tell me what the building is on the corner of the street I need and I am great. I can't remember street names, but I can remember whether or not there is a notable building there. I think it's because we relate better to people in our own style than in theirs.

I agree, why do we give directions by the pub route instead of the street and road route.

Because landmarks are easier to remember then street names.

I do it by churches cause they see most churches better than most pubs in London

Oh Muffin - I like the way you think! I can also give directions using coffee shops, Waffle Houses, and biker bars.
