The job, as a fundraiser for a major public univerisity, calls for a masters degree or a bachelors degree and two years of general experience. It has the same requirement for every non-faculty position, regardless of what department, so think it is blanket statment. Otherwise, I exceed all other qualifications and my experience is highly relavent, in that I currently serve in a similar role at a non-profit organization. However, it seems that they may be strict, but 3 months, considering it could take a long time to complete the hiring process? Any advice?

Yes go ahead and apply. They can only say no and may say yes. Many of those lists of qualifications are guidelines only.I can guarantee that if you do not apply you will not get that job. Good luck.

Never hurts to try! Explain that you know that you 3 months shy of meeting their requirements but you are impressed with the company and have a strong desire to be apart of their team. Let them know that you didn't want to wait 3 months to find out that the door has been closed. Don't make these statements without doing your home work about the company and make sure that this is really the place for you. Go to their web site and learn all you can. Sharp employers are never turned off by outgoing, polite people that know what they want. Go for it!!!!

I was once told by an employment agency that you should apply for jobs that you want as long as you have 70% of the qualifications. Often, the company will have to train you to do things their way anyways.

Yes apply, what is the worst that can happen? They won't hire you for that position. What is the best that can happen? You can get the job. But whatever you do, do not lie about your experience.

yes. i applied for my current job with less experience than they advertised for but still got the job. it especially helps if you are able to show them you're capable in doing the job through other things like samples of past work, portfolio, references, talking about other experiences, having a great cover letter and resume, etc.

Go for it! All they can do is say, 'no'. Also, if they don't fill the position for three months then you're OK anyway.

Definitely! Definitely! Definitely!

The worst they can do is not give you the job that you already don't have.
