It has been proven by sientests that it was the egg that came first. Animals are not able to "evolve" after they are born. So a primitive bird laid an egg and while the embryo was developing it evolved into a chicken there.

the egg - long before chickens but for different animals.
If you are talking about eggs that chickens come from - the egg came first again ...and hatched the very first chicken. It way layed by something that was "almost" a chicken, but needed one more step in evolution

The chicken - the egg had to be laid by something, right? BUT, the chicken could have evolved from species that didn't lay eggs, which reproduced through live childbirth, or even through cell division.
