It decreases to zero the moment you choose abstinance. However, since this precludes a bit of fun, you can often tell when the ovum is expelled from your body-you can see a bit of blood--and, while there is a chance there is another egg lurking and waiting to be fertilized, it is a small chance. Hope this helps.

The answer to this is very clear if you use Natural Family Planning and chart your fertility symptoms, your temperature and mucus ( I know it sounds gross but it works). Four days after an elevated temperature (like 4/10 of a degree) and also when your mucus is dry you are most likely not fertile. For different women this occurs at different times. Generally I find this day to be at about at about day 17 after my last period, but of course it is different for every person. This is a great method for postponing pregnancy and requires no chemicals or artificial barriers. This is also the only form of birth control (if you need to call it that) that is approved by the catholic church, although many non-catholics use it.

When used correcty after taking a course in this method it is 99 percent effective.

72 hours after ovulation the chance for pregnancy drops off considerably. note: ovulation usually occurs between the 14 - 16 th day of a woman's cycle. so about 10 days before until her period starts the chance of pregnancy is dramatically less. please do not use this as a form of birth control.

A couple days after ovulation, the egg dies (24 to 48 hrs after ovulation). That is, if it's not fertilized.

NEVER. Women aren't clocks, so you never know when you are ovulating. Ovulation usually occurs 14 days after the first day of your period.
