For me...

It's politics and religion.

I find that no matter how civil the debate is, no matter how many facts or sources are presented, etc...

There is no common ground except the old Voltaire adage

"I don't agree with what you say but i will defend to the death your right to say it."

If you want to kill a conversation...then sure, talk about politics and religion (after life insurance is always a tricky topic).

But...I flat out refuse to talk about a woman's hairdo or whether or not she looks fat in a particular article of clothing. That is a no-win conversation that always leaves me wishing I had bought some after life insurance.

Some subjects are actually by private or public law not to be discussed in the immediate area. Like bomb=Airlines, At work=about a co-worker. I have a list that will fill the space allowed. So I avoid these if you catch my drift.

You pegged my two. Everyone believes in how they think it ought to be, so why bother fighting about it. I stand mute.

Agree with you. Both are taboo and death to discuss.
