I can not stand my brother in law. My husband feels the need to spend every free second he has with him and I'm sitting home alone. His wife recently left him (can't blame her) and he's really on this poor poor me act. he needs to get a life and grt out of mine!

Yes,I get along with my mother in law. It maybe helps that she lives on the other side of the planet. But seriously She is like a mom to me. :)

I have not been in my mother in laws presence for at least 5 years. It is not a hostile relationship, just a non existant one. My husband and I agree that we should have to required to spend any time with each other's family that we do not wish to. We make no excuses for each other and it is accepted that we travel alone.

no not really. They really wanted nothing to do with me from day one, only because I was from another country. They would say to me all the time,I'm not being smart but,Your a really nice person, but we don't like you because you are are foreigner. After nearly 14 years of trying to prove myself,I went back home with my husband and 3 children. My husband always said to me we can go back to where I came from, but I was so determined to get my husband family to approve of me.The strange thing is when my Husband told them that we were leaving and going to where I come from, they couldn't get enough of me.It took them nearly 14 years to ask me,where are you from in Australia.I did always try to tell them this, but they would always walk away,or shrug me off.I don't know if I will ever go back to live in Ireland,as I do consider it my home still, and I am blessed to have amazing friends there, and they are more like family now than friends,at least if we as a family do decide to go back,I know what to expect when it comes to my Husbands family.

Yes. They are wonderful. They would do anything for my husband & me. They are kind & caring. We visit them a couple of times a week and sit outside on the deck & have cocktails. Wouldn't trade them for anything!

I thought they would be like my own family but I learned that it would never happen. I was really disappointed with MIL when I guess I figured out how she really was. I will see her but now believe my husband so i won't be pushing him anymore to visit her.
