I already have an established fish tank with 4 goldfish all about 12 months old and quite large. I know have a new goldfish that is very tiny. Is it safe to put the new fish in with the old fish, will they eat it. The new one is like a about 1inch long compared to the other which are about 6 inches

Yes, it will be fine. Just do the normal acclimation proccess by introducing him to the tank over a 20-30 minute period. As far as the fish attitudes, that varies, but if they are all goldfish, I doubt they will care and will most likely welcome their new tank mate. Usually, and this is recommended with all new tank mates, it is a good idea to re-arrange the rocks, plants and other decorations in the tank. This prevents territory disputes because when you re-arrange the tank, they all have to find new hiding spots to protect and get freaky in. By doing that, they will be too busy finding their new favorite spot to hang out than to pick on the new guy.

As long as the new fish is bigger then the older fishes mouths and the tank is big enough (10 gallons at least for each fish) then yes. At first the older fish may chase the new fish around to get to know it but it should be fine, if not you should have a place to put the new fish if it doesn't work out. A new fish should always be quarantined for around a month before being introduced though. Things like ich or fungus are easy to see but things like internal parasites can be harder to spot and can take time to show up.

I should think so, I've had fish since I was very small and my mother never told me about any little incidents from within the tank!!
It might be worth keeping the baby in a separate tank for a few weeks just for peace of mind though, but I'm sure when you do intoduce the fishy friends they will egt along swimmingly!!

No you can't! In most instances the other fish will attack it! Not sure why (think it is a territorial thing) but the guy at the pet shop once told me that I shouldn't get a new fish that is a lot smaller than others. If you get one that is similar in size it will be ok!

Big fish eat little fish, put some type of water plants in the tank so it can hide.

With most fish this wouldnt be a problem but gold fish put off toxins that are bad for other fish.

there may be bullies in the tank who will attack the small fish, but you won't know until you try, just make sure you observe the bigger fish for awhile when you do put the younger on in. don't forget to float it on the top in bag for fifteen minuets. good luck

the problem is not if he will adapt or the others will except him the problem is a new fish can have diseases so to your question is yes, but I would quarantine him first for at least 30 days. You do not want to bring any diseases to your tank

yes this is fine but let the fish float in the bag on top of the water for about 30 minutes so it can acclimatize to the water temperature then pour him in. the others fish will just carry on the same but don't get to existed and crap your tack with to many fish in it.
