Pray that she is innocent. Is it a Jr college or a University. Most universities kick you out and put it on your transcript. She wont be able to get into another school with an academic dishonesty mark on her record. She may not get kicked out if the school doesnt have an honor code, but most do, so shes probably screwed. Dont plagerize...its stealing and you could technically be brought up on charges for it, if its major. Like I said, shes screwed, and rightfully so if she did it. My school has a zero tolerance, and students have been expelled for first time plagerism because they always stress how serious it is. Plus we are required to sign the honor code on most papers/assignments

Well, if your friend is innocent, then hopefully nothing will happen. some colleges have "hearings" for this kind of thing, but most of the time, professors will settle it with the student to make sure these accusations are right. but if she DID plagarize...then she is in serious trouble. plagarism is VERY serious in college. Some professors can take it up with the Dean and the student will have serious consequences. but again, some professors deal witht htse situations individually. Some may give a failing grade on the assignment, others may fail the student for the entire class =/
I don't think she would get expelled for first-time plagarism though, if that is what you are asking

The range of probably outcomes:
No Action >> Fail the Course >> A Note of academic Dishonesty on her permanent record >> Dismissal from the College. Nobody can predict which will actually happen.

If this is a reasonable college, it will consider the severity of the incident, and will consider whether this is a first offense or a repeat offense.

Completely depends on the college. I had a friend in college accused of plagarism and she was expelled. Fun stuff. If she can prove she didn't plagarize, she should do so ASAP. She'll likely have to present herself to a board or review board. Is there a reason she did it, or did she just not cite something correctly?

She will go on Judicial review.

Tell her to bring her notes and sources. Have her come up with an explaination on how she came up with the phrase in question.

(They jsut type in certain phrases and lines into a machine and the machine comes out with common documents with that line for that topic)

If there is only 1 or 2 lines it's ok.

I think they will just get an F for that particular assignment . At worst they would be required to retake the course but I find that unlikely unless their previous grades were teetering on the edge of a failing grade.

first thing is look at the student handbook...they will outline the rules. some universities can expell you...some professors simply make you redo the assignment...but if the professor pushes it your friend might have to sit infront of a reveiw board.

If she was proven guilty and didn't admit(if only she really did it) of what she did, she might be expelled from the university..
and all of her achievements during college might be put into trash..
i dont know..that's what my US 1 teacher told me..
