How much more efficient will my wood fireplaces be, once i put glass doors on them?

Your wood fireplace will be less than 10% efficient with glass doors and no blower. With the blowers added it willbe around 30% efficient at best. Tthe glass doors may not help to heat the room, but they will help the fireplace from sucking obscene amounts of already heated room heat up the chimney when the damper is open. So they are well worth having. They will create an additional barrier between outside air and inside air. I had an open fireplace with a traditional flap damper and I put in glass doors and use a chimney balloon to insulate the damper while the fireplace is dormant and it has helped the livingroom from being so cold.

the glass doors aren't going to make it anymore efficient, -- oh yeah, if you dont have glass doors what kind of doors do u have? Just curious, like a couple of the other guys said, a blower on your fireplace is what u need. If your fireplace is new it should come equipt with one. I assume b/c u have an outdoor intake all u have are vents u can open and close. Maybe you install a blower, but not sure. Closing those glass doors will only radiate the heat (only warm 12-36" around your fireplace- depending on how much feul u feed it). In other words, if u want your fireplace to heat an area keep the screens closed and the doors open.

About the only thing glass doors are good for is keeping warm air in the room and smoke out. If you have gas to your fireplace try ventfree logs.

unless you have a blower that blows out heat from the fire place its not going to be efficent at all. the doors willl block all the heat comming out and send it up the chimney.

not much more you need to install ablower to throw out that warm air instead of radiating it.
