When deciding on a career, a person should take into account several things. Their interests, abilities, hobbies, past experience, etc. Money in many cases is the main motivation, but it should not be. Although a person may not always be able to pursue a career that they like, they should at least consider ability. Don't do something just for the money.

Money helps. But, I thought more about what I enjoyed doing and what I could envision myself doing for a long time. The concepts of constantly learning, reading, writing and analytical puzzles were interesting to me. Getting deep into someone else's psyche or innards were not so appealing. That is what I looked for when I was grappling with what to choose for a career. I think that the motive varies from person to person.

If they have a real interest in it, if they have a natural talent for it, how hard it is to get a job in that market in their area, how far the jobs are from their home, chance for promotion, what the earning capabilities in their area are, etc. Those would be the things I would think about when considering a CAREER choice.

Money is not always the main reason that people choose a specific career. You must also consider if it is something that you enjoy doing and insurance. If the company has good insurance, less pay does not bother me.

I look for job satisfaction: am I happy here, do I feel productive? The jobs I've loved the most in my life have, for the most part, not been high-paying.
