Hi,

I have a website currently containing JPEG images which are taking ages to appear. I have been given two pieces of advice; 1) change the image format to GIF, 2) put the html code into the page in order to make the pics appear more quickly. Unfortunately, as I am new websites, html, etc I am not sure how I can change the images to GIF (what software do I need to use?) and with regards to the html, I’m not sure where I need to insert it in the page. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Have you resized your images to an appropriate resolution for the web? This means loading them in a graphics program and resizing them, not specifying in HTML the size you want them to appear. The former will reduce the graphic size, the latter will just load a really large photo into a really small space.

There is also javascript you can get to preload your images.

The tags you described above won't need to be changed. If you've been able to get the .jpg file to display on screen at all, there is already a tag like the one you mention in the place in the html document where you define it being drawn.

As for speeding up your site's picture download times, converting to gif format can sometimes help; you can do this through any graphics creation software (even paint) by opening the file, opting to "save as" and choosing a new file extension from the provided drop-down list. However, ".PNG" or Portable Network Graphics files are steadily becoming the best replacement to jpg due to the improved compression techniques it uses.

The other thing to check is that both the image and the site are held on servers with a reasonably high-bandwidth and low latency internet connection; more so if you're expecting many visitors. This can make all the difference to the connection times.

If you have powerpoint:

Inset the picture in to PP and then right click it and click save pic and save it as the formt you wish. However changing the frmat also changes the image itself. Then upload the image on www.photobucket.com Get the URL of the image . Then use this HTML:

Well if you put two many pic on a page the more elements it haves the more harder is charging so do not put more than 10 or 15 pictures. About the GIF i don't know i have a site on Piczo and Piczo uses JPEG pic but they charge fast so i don't think it's the format. :)

Reduce the file size through compression. Make sure they aren't enormous file sizes. Sounds obvious. What is your upload speed from your provider to your pc from the server??

Is your web connection high speed?
That may be the beginning of your problem if you have dial up.

And you may need to defrag your computer. Lot of junk might be on it.
