I think he'll be a decent back. Only time will tell if he can hold up to playing every down.

Ive seen this very question before.
I think Brandon Jacobs is all heart. He's a great player and i love the guy. Im just not sure if he's an iron man, all game kind of guy like Tiki. 6'5", 270 pound guys get tired alot faster than 5'10", 205 pound guys. Even Tiki took breaks during games.
I'd like to think he can do it. Tiki is sure grooming him for the job, and i think the guy is a wrecking crew all by himself (look how he carried Ronde Barber 10 yards backwards before it took two more guys to take him down). But the Giants may need a vet to fill the spot another year or so before he gets the call.
GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS.

Jacobs is certainly talented. He was one of the top junior college players in the nation, and the sole discernible reason that he transferred down to the Division 1-AA level seemed to be the fact that he transferred to Auburn initially (which had Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown already on the depth chart). Auburn coaches, in an effort to keep the atheletic freak, debated moving him to tight end before working him as an end. Jacobs went on to a productive senior year at S. Illinois which he parlayed into becoming a fourth round selection of the Jints in 2004.
Although he is far from a sure thing, Jacobs is athletic and shows immense promise. He seems to fit the "storied" Giants' mentality as far as smashmouth football goes and his future is bright. I believe that the Giants would certainly consider a running back in the mid-late first round range if he were available (and would expect a prospect to be drafted at some point in the first day), but doubt that the Giants would alter their "best player available" line of thinking just to fill a need caused by Barber's departure.
In summation, there probably would be some sharing of carries in 2007, but count me among those who believe that Jacobs could be a steady, punishing full time NFL rb.

Yes they will. Many guys who split time are not as good when they carry the whole load. ex: Though I support Michael Turner, I don't think he'd be as good if he had to play every down --however he is helpful to attack a weakend defense with a full-strength back. The greats were great because they could be getting stuffed at one point, but then pull something else and get yardage.
And, I don't care if the man is athletic, the man is the size of a 3-4 linebacker. I could only see him excelling at short yardage and goal-line situations.

For the first year he won't be able to carry the load of a entire game. So the Giants are most likely gonna find a replacement "Lightning" for Tiki, to back up and compliment Jacob's "Thunder"
hey....anyone remember Ron Dayne? lol

no..i dont think he will be able to handle the load..he is too much of a hot head to be kept on the field that long and too much of a risk of fumbling or getting hurt by his upright running style...he is perfect for the giants as the type of back he is now..giants will hopefully get a free agent, like chris brown, or draft a RB late in the first round that may have an impact or at least split carries with jacobs

I think he is a fine first or second down back, but the Giants would have to go and find a third down back meaning that he could be a good receiver out of the backfield and really good in the open field.

I think they need to draft a speed back with there one of there 3,4,5 round picks. They need an adequeta speed guy because brandon is a force when near the goalline but not that great anywhere else

My guess is that they will try to pick up another RB in the draft, or try to sign a free agent. Someone that can catch passes out of the backfield for Eli's checkdowns. Maybe Cadillac Williams?

I think they might draft Adrian Peterson or Kenny Irons or somebody b/c Jacobs, though good, is a power back and they need him to share carries with a speed back.
