The current Stig (the white one) is a mysterious person, some believing that he is actually more than one person.
There were two F1 cars that the Stig drove, and he was probably a different person each time (the Toyota indoor run shows a logo on the Stig's helmet, a clue to his identity for that run). Plus there was a snowmobile jump performed by the man in white, and perhaps it was a professional snowmobile racer.
The black Stig (the original one) was Perry McCarthy, a former F1 test driver for a few teams; he was fired after revealing his identity in a book, and on the show he was "killed off" by flying off the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible in an old Jaguar XJS in 4-mile deep water.

Right, let's close this question once and for all....

No one in the public knows who the current Stig is. Although as someone above posted, Ben Collins is the most likely candidate for some of the work.

What you have to take into account is that TG films for months on end, so a current racing driver would be too busy to commit himself to all this filming. Therefore the most likely solution is to have a couple of Stigs who share the work.

As someone else stated, the previous Stig was Perry McCarthy. Ex-F1 and Le Mans driver. However, he was "released" from his contract after selling his story to publicise his autobiography.

Whilst the book was well received, The Stig unfortunately let slip his real identity and a stunned world discovered that the man behind the helmet was in fact... Perry McCarthy!!

The current one is Perry Mccarthy as mentioned above, but only some of the time.

During filming with F1 cars, the manufacturers have put in their own drivers, there has also been a few other odd times where he was changed due to Perry or the original stig being elsewhere in the country/world.

You never know, one day it could be you.

there was 2 stigs, the first in all black revealed himself, the second as we see now hasn't revealed his identity but somebody told me it before i started watching top gear and knew what they were on about.

In one episode they were doing a parachute jump or something and the guy driving the truck to collect em is the stig without his gear

you have stig Blomquist (swedish rally driver) who used to still compete at the highest level until a few years ago!

but for tp gear then it was Perry McCarthy althought the identity is well hidden now!
