Koi is the word used for passionate love. (think between a wife and husband). other words used that has the root "koi" in it are Koibito (similar to BF, GF, or partner) and Koi shiteiru ("i love you").

Suki (pronounced ski) is the word for love... but it normally means like (normally used in confessions "suki desu" or "i like/love you"). adding the modifier "dai" to the word "suki" (daisuki) gives it that extra so instead of "suki desu" (i like/love you) it's "daisuki desu" (i really like/love you). daisuki desu is pronounced as "daski des".

Ai is usually used as parental love and is not normally used when referring to love between lovers (though, it has been used in that way on occasion). other instances of words meaning love that have the "Ai" root are ai shiteiru ("i love you") and aijin(an illicit love).

one last thing. Koi and Ai are not normally used in public by Japanese. the word Suki, as mentioned before, can mean like... so you can use Suki to describe how you feel about food, cartoons, or some other object (you might here this quite a bit in anime... along with the words "oishi desu" aka "it's delicious")
