An anthropology major isn't going to do much to help you get certified. If you are a Freshman or Sophomore, consider switching your major to elementary ed ASAP. If you are near to graduation- you may want to graduate as an anthropology major and get elementary certification in a masters program (such as an MAT) where you can get certified and your masters at the same time.

Of course it's possible to major in Anthropology and teach elementary school but kind of a waste of your time to work outside your major, isn't it? Maybe you should switch to Education. Speak to an Academic counselor.

Are you asking if you can teach anthropology in an elementary grade level? If so, I think a subject like that is way too advanced to get into elementary level, unless you had a little section about earlier man. I didn't learn about early man until I was in 6th grade, and that was a little portion in my social studies class.

If its too late for you to switch your majors, there are many programs that will let you teach at a high risk school district and will help you get your masters in Education at the same time. You can even chose what part of the country you'd like to teach at. I'd try Teachforamerica.org first, but there are also similar programs in Chicago and NYC. I also hear it's very rewarding both personally and professionally, but they won't take just anyone.

Minor or dual major in elementary education, take the licensure test, do your work study, and then find a job. There is a teacher shortage going on, so you can even get hired without the being an education major, but it helps with the test. And they are fun.
