Hi I am England and trying to sell my house, but the people buying it have had their mortgage declined following a survay which has said that due to the cavity wall isualtion and timber framing it MAY lead to dampness and rotting of the timber! We did not get the insualtion put it, it must have been done over 20 years ago and the house is about 50 years old!

If brick houses and prefabs can have cavity foam, i see no reason why a timber building should not also.

I would not use cavity wall insulation in a timber framed house as the timber needs to breathe, you could cause a fair few problems with the structure of the property.

im a english bricklayer for 20 years and have built hundreds of timber frame houses and never used insulation in the cavity the inside skin of the house also made of wood should be stuffed with rockwool between the studwood and then the plasterboard nailed onto the stud work this acts as your insulation to check that it is there drill a small hole in to the plasterboard making sure you dont drill into a wooden stud let the drill bit run 10/20 seconds then pull out the rockwool will have intangeled on the drill bit then you know u have insulation

in timber framed houses they had thermal barries fitted in the fabrication . buildings of the age you mention were basically the first put up in this country,at that time very hard to get a mortgage therefore i think you have a big problem. sorry no easy answer, talk to a professional surveyor.

Someone will buy it. They are just trying to get you to pay for replacing it before they buy.
As you said, it was done 20 years ago.
