The moon is "tidally locked" with the earth.
This means that as it goes around the Earth in its orbit it spins just slowly enough so that one side is always facing the Earth, and one side cannot be seen from the Earth.
As the moon goes around the Earth, each part gets daylight and darkness just like days on the Earth - but the "day" on the moon is nearly a month long - exactly the same as its "year".
Imagine two ice skaters facing each other and holding (both) hands. As you swing your partner around you, you can see her face, but not her back.
Now imagine a spotlight shining on you from one side of the rink. If your partner is facing the spotlight her face is lit up, and if she is facing away from the light all you see is her silhouette. When she's in-between, you see part of her face lit up. This is similar to what causes the phases of the moon.
Notice that no part of her is always dark or always light - but her face is always towards you, and her back is always hidden from you. She has a near side and a far side. But not really a dark side or light side.
When people say "dark side of the moon" they generally mean the far side of the moon (which is not always dark).

You are just seeing the day and night side of the moon so thus, just a shadow. The night side is obviously not lit up. Next time you see the moon out during the day, take a look at which side is facing towards the the sun.

The phases of the moon (1/4 moon, 1/2 moon & such) is cused by the earth blocking that portion of light from the sun. Like Mercury, the moon does not rotate so only one side ever gets light from the sun. This is the side man has always explored for the obvious reasons of light & a huge tempeture difference.

Neither, it has one face continually facing the earth and the other continually away from the earth. It does one complete revultion in tha same time as it orbits once around the earth. So a lunar day is the same length of time as its period around the earth. The term the 'dark side of the moon' refers to that other side when the moon is full. But it gets as much light as the 'bright side', meaning the near side.

The sun's light can only light up half of the moon at a time. The moon is spherical like a ball. Take a ball and a flashlight and shine different sides of the ball and you will see the same patterns form. The moon going from new (totally dark from our perpective) to full in called waxing, and full to new is waning.

Absolutely, the Moon has 2 parts - one which we always see and one which we never see unaided.
The Moon revolves once on its axis for every orbit it completes around the Earth. Hence, it only faces one side towards us, the one we are so familiar with. The dark side of the moon has only been seen by unmanned spacecrafts.
