Wanting to make films?

So my dream has alway been to make movies and sometimes be in one. I chose another route and didint really follow that. Im 21 and young, but I guess I never followed that for the fear that I would never make it. My question is what equipment would I need to start if I want to make films and where can I learn how to use it?

There are several ways. The best is most likely the traditional path of college/university in a film program.

In many larger cities you can also use equipment provided by the local cable companies. This is usually for free and they often provide instruction as well.

Lastly you can just buy a digital camcorder and a good PC or Mac and dive in.
