Depends on the job and the interviewer. Generally though, they are looking for:

-Do you appear to be competent for the job? Some people sound great on paper but flub the in person interview. They may be anti-social, angry, entitled, etc. The interview is the opportunity to shine!

-Are you confident? While you shouldn't brag this is the time to sell yourself and overcome any lacking parts of your credentials. (Ie, GPA, lack of experience, etc.) If you're enthusiastic and show you're willing to learn, that helps a lot.

-I once had an interviewer tell me they wanted a "polished" candidate, ie not one who didn't take care of his or her appearance. I was dressed to the nines (for me), nice clothes, subtle jewelry and perfume, etc.

-Sometimes interviewers will throw strange questions at you. ("If you could be a tree, what kind would you be and why?") This and other questions are to see how well you handle pressure or unexpected situations.

Interviews are to weed out the weird people (I've interviewed people and watched people interview, and man, are there weird people out there...) and for the interviewer/potential supervisors to see how a candidate fits with the present team/company.

That's why you should be nice to EVERYONE you meet, from the security guard to the receptionist and on up. Because if the interviewer asks around and hears that you treated people badly, it may hurt your chances.

Good luck!

Depends on the job and the interviewer. Generally, interviewers want to see a person that is professional in appearance and demeanor. Dress the part and come prepared! It will help to know a little bit about the company before you actually go to the interview. Also, you should do about 70% of the talking in the interview. Play up your strengths and don't be afraid to admit weaknesses if asked about them. Also, make any experience that you have had in previous jobs or school relevant and relatable to the job you are interviewing for. The interview is your chance to STAND OUT above all the other applicants...make yourself memorable!! Good luck!

Here is the worst trick question. It comes in many forms but goes something like this: What do you perceive your weaknesses to be? Never answer with a weakness like, I might have a problem getting to work on time or something along these lines. Present a weakness as a strength such as: I am such an overachiever, I sometimes have to be told to stop working so hard. Get the idea. Never answer this question with a real weakness, make it a positive weakness. This I believe is the key to the interview and I have never interviewed for a job that I didnt get.

you can never overdress! try to wear a suit, its very impressionable, keep smiling, ask questions, make sure your hair, fingernails and shoes look good ( for some reason those are the first 3 physical things employers look at) have a great personality, even if you don't have all the skills there looking for, having a great personality alone sometime gets you the job! good luck!

Are you talking about what the company is looking for in a candidate or what the candidate wants in a job/company.

The company wants to know that you really want this job, you have the basic skills and experience to handle it, you will show up everyday and perform...that it is part of your overall career objectives.

The candidate wants to know that this will be a good place to work and advance their career, and that it fits their values and passions.
