Get them involved in many forms activities. and once they find something they are passionate let them chill there. For me i am a Christian. I know God has a purpose for me and I love that. I know he will place me somewhere where he wants me. I went to Africa last summer on a missions trip. It completely changed my life. I wanted to be a buisness major but i have changed to getting my nursing degree so when i graduate, i can move there and help them in anyway i can. and then on the side tell them about the LIVING GOD.
If you are not Christian, there are non-ministry type mission trips. This helps to open the eyes of the youth. They think they have it so hard here and are completely ungrateful. There, they see the devistation and what they go through.
I encourage this way but there are other ways. Good Luck

Help them build confidence in themselves. My children were taught from an early age that unless an individual is mentally handicapped we have a mind that is capable of accomplishing anything we want in life. Never settle, always reach out for the best. Set a good example for your children. It is no coincidence that doctors have children who grow up to be doctors. No matter what your lot in life, be proud and hold yourself upright, it's no sin to be poor, but there is no reason to be uneducated.

The best thing I think any parent can do is to just believe in their child, and ALWAYS praise them. Let them KNOW they can do or be anything they want if they try!!! And always make sure to tell them you love them, no matter what!!! Always Encourage them to live up to their capabilities.

If you are coming from a Christian aspect, tell them how God had a plan for their lives before the foundation of the world, before they were ever born. And He plans for them to fullfill that purpose.
