There is no need to a switch.
Just connect one of your computers to the internet. then link those computers to each other by a cable (i.e. cat6). then share your Internet connection (connection properties-advance tab). assign 2 IP adresses for your computers. on the computer that s not connected to the internet do this configuration: on connection properties ,general tab,TCP/IP configuration, default gateway, set the ip of the computer that is connected to internet.
Maje sure your firewall is off.

you want a router. you are able to purchase a instantaneous router or a daily router (I recommend instantaneous once you've outfitted in instantaneous on your pc). purchase the router and plug it into the internet source. follow the guidelines that contain it. After that, both plug contained in the internet cord into your pc or turn on the instantaneous card. visit community Connections (both on your administration panel or settings searching on your version of abode windows) and enable the suitable community.

I'm not sure what switch you have but if you want them both on at the same time you'll need a router. They're not that expensive and can be bought at Future shop or any other computer supply store.

Unless your modem passes out multiple IP addresses, which I doubt it does, you will need a router then.
