While driving along, I attempt to speed up and notice that the car won't accelerate. The engine slows down and then shuts off. I have to turn off the ignition and then restart the car. I recently had a rebuilt transmission and a rebuilt computer installed. I have taken the car to two different mechanics and they indicate since it is an intermitent problem and it is not producing a code they have no idea what it could be. It seems to occur in stop and drive traffic. I happened to me three times last night. It scares me to drive the car but I have no choice. Any suggestions????

You need to have a reputable dealership test drive the car with proper diagnostic tools to catch the problem when it happens...It could be several things including a partially plugged exhaust (catalytic converter) which is a quick check with proper tools and knowledge...

There seems to be a pattern failure for this problem for this little car, and there are three different causes for the same signs.
Take the little car back to the repair facility and ask that they check these three components for integrity and intermittent operation --
1) The Auto Shut-down Relay (ASD Relay). It tends to age and on occasion, the mere load of the engine will cause the contacts inside to overload.
2) A possible interruption of sync signal due to failure of the cam and crank sensors. (Common failure for all Chrysler products.
3) A intermittent corrupt MAP sensor signal. Another common Chrysler failure,a nd the one MOST likely to cause the very symptoms you describe.

Good Luck
