Basics:
Democrats want to put the burden on the Federal Government.
Republicans want to put the burden on the individual states.
Reality: Either way, the burden gets placed on us.
I tend to vote republican; but, am disgusted by both parties lies.
Democrats have taken credit for what republicans have done.
Republicans have lied about making changes. Anyone remember that "Contract with America"? Where'd that go?
Democrats tend to be more liberal in human rights.
Republicans tend to be more conservative.
Both parties are hypocritical on moral issues. Clinton signed into law a bill that allows censorship. Mr. Morality himself. Hmmm.
The Republicans have Foley, who help enact the toughest sex crimes law against pedophiles. And, then is discovered to have his own scandals in that area. Go figure.

Traditionally, Democrats are pro Union, abortion, controlled immigration, national security. Democrats are more open to same sex marriage.
Republicans, in the past are more for open business, globalization, higher militry spending for national security and controlled immigration. Conservative Republicans are against abortion & same sex marriage.
At the end there are a lot of agendas like National Security, Immigration that everyone agree on but may approach it differently.
Then you have the conservative Democrats & liberal Republicans.
Now to Wanda, what has God have to do with this. Most Democrats are also believers. That was a very silly answer and very bias. Just cos you are a free thinker, don't group the entire world into it. As far as I know, the US is still a free country?.

This is a difficult question to answer because there are no defined lines between the two parties as within the two parties you have the moderates and the die-hards such as the neo-conservatives. But in the main issues today such as abortion and gay rights dem. want abortion to be legal and rep. do not and they also want parental notification of an abortion for minors. Dem. also want gay rights such as gay marriage, while Rep. do not. Of course, people within the party do not always have the same views as the party. Also, Dem. want socialized healthcare because and a bigger government, but this would increase taxes NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY. Rep. are capitalists and believe in small government with little business regulation (which has allowed America's economy to thrive). So Democrats are socialists and believe in government overseeing the economay and Republicans are capitalists and believe the government should stay out of economics. Any more information you need I will be glad to help.

I already understood, and trust particular factors, except i don't think ANY baby-kisser on the nationwide aspect would furnish a job or money to a homeless human being except it became for a photo op. As to three of the human beings who replied and claimed that republicans at the instantaneous are not charitable, i visit in basic terms say that my spouse operates a non income nutrients shelf that gives you not in basic terms nutrients yet also many different facilities. the vast majority of donations come from self-proclaimed conservatives, and we stay in a democrat ruled state. it might seem that is the democrats, or a minimum of human beings that vote for them, are those my spouse helps lots of the time. And no, i'm not quessing, both the contributors to the nutrients shelf and the consumers of the nutrients shelf are quilty of discussing politics the position I or my spouse can overhear or take area.

From my point of view it's easy
Democrats, believe it the government's place to take care of you from cradle to grave. That means you can't take care of yourself, you are not smart enough to make you own decision's, the government knows best. It also means that there are a lot of government programs, SSN, Medicare, Welfare, Etc.
Republicans believe its the your responsibility to take care of yourself. You not the government should make the decisions that effect your life. They believe that the government should be as small as possible. With as few programs as possible.
The problem comes in with that either a Republican or Democrat may not believed in all that their party stands for. Some Democrats, don't necessary believe the the government should make your decisions, but that the government should be their to support you if you fail. While a Republican could and have supported a lot of government programs.
But the truth is that there are very few pure Republican or Democrats anymore, those of either party will do whatever they think will win them the next election.

Basically republicans dont think gov't can solve
any problems and so should be minimized. A person or groups
of individuals should go about dealing with their
problems, and gov't should get out of the way.
The role of gov't, according to republicans, is to ensure
security and safety of its citizens, and a level playing field
for all, and thats it.
Democrats, on the other hand, think gov't can be a postive
force in one's life / community/ country. So in addition
to providing basic security and safety, gov't should be involved
in other social programs for everyone's benefit.
This is basically the "idealogical" difference between them.
Rights of individuals and capitalism both republicans and democrats fully believe in.
Gay rights, abortion, capital punishment, etc, is more determined by one's religious belief than anythign to do with repulican or democrat.

Generally,
Republicans are for less government, pro-life, religious right, and lower taxes.
Democrats are for more government involvement with healthcare and handouts, and pro-choice.
In my opinion there are no difference between democrats and republicans,
they are all just politicians who tell the american people what they want to hear to be elected into the "good ole boys" club.

To make it simple :
Democrats are Liberals
Republicains are Conservative
Democrats tend more to be left (although really they are still right)
Republicains are definitely right.
Democrats are more likely to use taxes for social services
Republicans are more likely to cut taxes and let people take care of their social services
Democrats are better for the poors
Republicains are better for the richs
Edit :
Note that the current republicans at power are essentially the same group of people from the time of Reagan and are usually considered as Falcons ( pro-wars)

one believes that government should be applied more liberally and the other more conservatively. basically the democrats believe that government should do everything for everyone that it can (feed clothe house etc) and tax the wealthy and business to provide these services for the poor. this makes business weaker and makes for more poor people but since the rich and poor are ultimately provided for, the system is considered to work.
basicly republicans believe that government should only do what people cannot do themselves as individuals (provide defense, federal courts, economic system etc), and that prosperous conditions will make for fewer poor. the remaining poor are then largely dependent on charity which is often insufficient, but is considered to work as their is no growing class of poor dependent on the government. both mean well, but very different.
