I pay my bills online, but I still like to receive paper bills to remind me to pay because email notification isn't foolproof. This means I have no cancelled checks. As for my credit card and bank staments, I can print copies of the last six months online. So, should I save them at all, or just shred them after I know they have received payment?

thanks

When you receive your next bill, you can toss the old one if it has confirmation of your previous payment on it (like my gas bills say "Previous Payment: Thank you!" on them).

Shred them right away, they hold no value and can be a source of information for an identity thief. The one exception is if you take a deduction for a home office. Then you will need them for your taxes.

I have lived in my house for 12 yrs and I have kept every utility bill filed away. If you are a homeowner and want to sell your house in the future. You can show prospective buyers the average cost of utility expenses at your discretion if they would ask for that type of info.

You should just throw them out after you get the next one in the mail because its always gonna have your last transactions on the newest bill any how.
