my son is also 14, and I agree that even if you find it boring or it seems like you have not put much thought into the xbox games , that he will still be thrilled. especially since it will be getting colder and he will want to stay in.
usually i have no clue about what else to buy and don't like using a list,so land up buying something which is not always appreciated as much as i would have liked. now i use the list as at least you know that he is getting what he wants or some of it anyway. my daughter takes out the argos and writes down hundreds of catalogue numbers(in the knowledge that she will only get a few of the things),which is useful , because even though i could never buy all the things ,it gives us a broad idea of what she wants.
the magazine subscription is a good idea and i think I may do something like that too. Is he shaving yet, if not perhaps he will be thrilled by his first razor, and aftershave.

My brother is 14 also, and has way too many Xbox games, but he still gets excited to get another one under the tree. I would get him one, and you say he's not into music, but is he into sports? My brother is obsessed with football, so we buy him everything that's related-equipment, books written by famous players, jerseys, hats, posters, rings, tickets to a game, anything. Does your son have any interest of this type that you could indulge for him, even if you don't like it as much? if so, go crazy.
Another idea is, if he likes gaming, to buy him a gift card to go and play in a large arcade or something of that nature. Give him a voucher for a night of activities for him and his friends-whatever you decide, tailor it to fit him to a T. It might be hard, b/c often we overlook the hints we see in the everyday that can clue us in to buying a gift.
Good luck, just take your time and think in his mindset!

Geez, boys are so hard!!! How about a subscription to one of those xbox games magazines? A journal where he can write or paste things? A gift certificate to where he likes to buy clothes? Or think of something he likes but never pursued much and that you'd like him to, photography, certain types of movies or books, desk organizers, a calendar of some cartoon/show/other subject he likes? These may not be great ideas. I'm brainstorming with you...

A book of movie tickets, and wrap those up.
A MacDonalds gift card, and wrap that up.
A keychain. A wallet. A bath kit full of Axe products. A sports jacket with his favorite team on it. Socks. Comic books.
Can't think of anything else unless you want to spring for a laptop. lol Merry Christmas!!

I agree with the person who said get him to write a list of things...it is much better to not worry about the presents being a surprise, I always used to think "What a waste of money - I don't even want it....!" with bad surprise presents
I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but if you're going to spend the money, make sure it's on stuff he actually wants!

Game boys are good.
Or maybe an x box accessory. Does he have the remote so he can watch DVD's on his X Box, that would be good. Or maybe a cordless controller for this X box.
