I am unable to see my selected background image on my desktop. I can be seen it when windows is starting up, but then is covered up by a block colour (in my case its black), I had some spyware on my computer yesterday, which I think I have removed.
The background colour can be changed, but no images can be selected. - Under desktop properties the background selection is just greyed out and I cannot select any of the images.
Right clicking on an image and setting it as the background doesnt work either.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Right click on your desktop and set your wallpaper as "NONE"

Then go to your picture and right click and "set as desktop background"

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful
I can also give a few links that offer free virus and spyware removers...!You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at

try this: hold the power button to reset. when it says starting windows 7 ( while booting, right near the begining) press the f8 button. it will give you options including safe mode, and rollback. safe mode will allow you to use the computer, ( with some features turned off) hopefully to fix it. or rollback will let you go back to a time when it was working right.
