i have worked for both, a vet hospital and a vet office, and what i would suggest is to study up on your flea medications and other medications for pets....different things like that....it is always helpful to know some of the basics before you get into and have to learn as you go.....
Good luck....it is one of the most rewarding jobs i ever had...the only reasons i left my two positions is because i moved away from the first one and worked for a VERY rude person at the second...great dr but not a good person!!!!

At my vets office, the receptionist/office manager is very caring, she makes sure you understand everything before we leave. The vet is great, but I am a first impressions person and if the first person I met was rude or unorganized I would have not gone back. At my tanning salon, I have moved since I joined and it is a long drive, many times I have wanted to cancel my member ship, so I go in ready to do it......but they are so nice in there I just can't...

Always be kind, courteous and as helpful as you can with the people who are distressed because their pet is ill.
It can be a very hectic job so you need to keep your cool and deal with one problem at a time.

Always be confident and calm. If someone starts panicking in your ear as loud as an earthquake... calmly tell them to quiet down and talk slower... do easy stuff like that. Never lose your cool.

Just remember to never take comments personally. When someone comes in and says, "I want to see the *****--they DON'T mean you. They probably mean they miss their female dog they dropped off earlier."
