The true answer is, nobody knows for sure because Native Americans did not cronicle their history in writing the way Europeans and others did. Native Americans told fables and stories to teach their young people about their history. Scientists and archaeologists believe that Native Americans came over the land bridge that once linked Alaska and Northern Asia. Some also believe in the Continental Drift Theory. I believe that the Land Bridge Theory is the most plausible. One thing is for sure, Columbus did not discover America. How can you discover a continent that was already inhabited?

I, like most in America have some Native American Heritage as well as European Heritage (Irish, German, Scottish, Cherokee Indian and Shawnee Indian). I have always struggled with how Native Americans have been treated by the Europeans. I would venture to say that if the French won the French and Indian War against the British, Native Americans would have been treated very different than they were under British Colonialism and beyond. The French actually traded with the Native Americans and attempted to communicate with Native Americans in their own languages. The British and Colonial Americans? Well you know the rest of the story.

At one point in time all people came from the same place on one continent then the earth split and the people separated into different tribes or groups of people. The first Americans came over from the european continent what is believed to be a land bridge then they moved down from Alaska, Canada and eventually what is known as America.

All the separate continents use to be connected at one point... anthropologists and archaeologists believe that who we now call "Native Americans" were originally from Asia and maybe even into the upper parts of Africa.

Anthropologists believe upper Africa and lower Asia from the darker skin color and eastern Asia from similar facial features of people now in those areas.

Archaeologists speculate they were originally in Asia from artifacts found almost in a trail going from Asia through Canada and finally into the United States.

there is memories from community American/American Indian elders that say we've continuously been right here. there is artifacts that have been modern in u.s. that have been dated to have been right here previously the ice age, which i might say backs those memories from community American/American Indian elders. Now that ice bridge concept i might say some could have found yet no longer all.

"scientists" used to believe they came across a land bridge at the Bering Straits.

Or those who believe in the Continental Drift, the "indians" just came along for the ride when that part of the land drifted this way.

they migrated from Asia by a land bridge, there was actually a HUGE bear with really long legs that could run fast that lived in North America prior to the native Americans, many scientists and historians believe it might have been the reason that North America wasn't settled for so long, i think just because the Native Americans got there first didn't mean the land belonged to them exclusively, i mean really isn't that discriminating if you think about it?
