There are no rules anymore about what to wear to a funeral. Its nothing more than a stereotype to wear black at a funeral. Yes, people in our society once wore black or dark blue. If you look at the funeral director's they usually will still wear black suits as well, but there are no rules about attire for those attending. There would be no disrespect in wearing any color of clothing. Wear something dressy and nice looking out of respect, but it doesn't have to be black or blue.

At my grandma's funeral, before she died she requested that nobody wears black! So, everyone dressed up in pretty, bright colors. It made the day a little less sad. Black is just customary...it's not mandatory you wear black. I think whatever you decide to wear is going to be just fine! I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Its fine to wear whatever you feel is appropriate for the person you are mourning. Too much emphasis is placed on what is right and wrong without enough thought for the person you miss. Think about what they would prefer and go with it - what would you prefer to happen at your funeral? Miserable faces lamenting loss or tearful smiles remembering the good and happy?
I know which I would go for! Hope it goes as well as can be expected.

I'm sorry for your loss...I've been to many funerals and I seldom see anyone wearing dark colors especially black. Most bereaved families I see often wear white or light-colored clothes. I'm pretty sure you can wear any color (as long as it's not screaming, "look at me"). Black or not, the most important thing is to dress modestly and respectfully for the ocassion.

Ask your parents.
Another guideline is to dress very neatly and as you would for a solemn church service.
Don't have a lot of ornaments hanging from various body parts.
If you don't regularly attend church, then think of some President (if you are USA) what you admire; how do you think you should dress if you were invited to the Oval Office?

all black is what most people wear, but today its not a big deal to wear bright colors. For example some people wear red or something to celebrate the life of their loved one or others wear colors they know their loved one enjoyed wearing themselves. Iam sorry for your loss.

I think it's perfectly alright to wear an article of clothing that is not black as long as its in excellent shape and fits appropriately.

Nowadays not everyone wears black or dark blue. Anything that doesn't draw attention should be fine. Nothing showy or flashy

I have seen about every thing worn to funerals. the fact that you cared enough to go & help pay your respects to the family is enough . I don't judge people by there clothing.if it is within reason.
