thank you for the intelligent answers, and no thanks to the person who said "EASY"! I don't get it! And turning it off and on will ruin the phone and doesn't solve the virus problem! You guys are dumb!

yes it can! If that happens, you may have to go to your service provider :)

My daughter received this message as well last night. It was from a different address than anyone else has reported, but same body of text. She also has no profile up anywhere. This was a mass texting from multiple computers using either randomly generated phone numbers or utilizing a list of numbers compiled by a third party. Even if you do not receive another text like this again, keep a close eye on your next wireless bill. Look for any "extra" charges that you have never seen before. There was an article in the Los Angeles Times this week about people being signed up for different types of ongoing texting services without their knowledge. If they werent' paying attention to the bill, some were being charged for months at a time by these unscrupulous companies. To add insult to injury, the Provider was also billing them for the texts as well. This will take you to the L.A Times article from 1/23/08 - "The Joke is on cell-phone users"

There are at least 5 virus that someone sends you an "im", then you open it and it starts a multiple chain of ims. It doesnt actually damages your phone but It creates a big loop of ims causing you a lit money. Another one, is when someone wants to contact you, they send you an email once you open it they get your phone number and contacts, but this happens more in china and great britain. There isn't a virus that can damage your cell phone, but stay away from ultra sonic frequencies (they operate at different frequencies), they might distortionate your receiver.

The newer your cell phone is, the easier it can get a virus because alot of newer cell phones these days are practically running on software like your computer does.

That happened to me one time! However, the im was from a friend, so i don't think it had to do with something they sent. But I took my phone to cingular, where they told me i had to send it in because it had some type of lock where the "brain" or whatever is in a phone was mixed up. You may want to take it in though, my phone never corrected itself. Good Luck!

Take it to a techincian at your local provider's store they can wipe the memory in it. And yes if you download stuff like music or email files onto your phone you can get a virus it's just like you're doing it on your home pc, same theory!

I think they can .. did'nt some one hack into paris hiltons phone..
But you know your cell phone can also really make you sick, you need to disinfect it once in a while. I would ask your phone retailer, maybe they can help you rid your self of the problem in the phone . Maybe your warrenty covers a new phone.

Yes, if you can receive Email or browse the Internet with your cell phone, it can get a virus.

I don't think its a virus, but rather your phone not being capable of opening the application you received. Cell phones can't receive viruses.
