There have been a few occurrences in these last few months about Hecklers in relation to political opinions. Recently, a heckler was supposedly shoved into a chair by supporters after asking Sen. Allen about spitting on his wife. According to an article on cnn.com, the Senator has refused to scold his backers. At a Barbra Streisand concert, a heckler was reported to have supposedly said "Shut Up and Sing, this isn't a political event" in relation to skit involving Bush Impersonator, Steve Bridges and supposedly was told to F*** off by Barbra Streisand, herself. Do you think that "hecklers" deserve to face these kind of consequences? Do Hecklers have the right to behave this way in public? Your thoughts.

The term "heckle" can certainly be construed differently by different persons. In my opinion, your first example illustrates a gentleman asking a tough question to a political candidate. He certainly has the right to ask that question, and shouldn't have to endure an assault because of it. On the other side of the coin, however, is the allegation that this individual follows George Allen around regularly asking things that are not relevant to the campaign. In that scenario, he should be prohibited from interfering with the event. In your second example, the individual made a rude comment, and Barbra gave him a piece of her mind. The Bush impersonator is part of her show. Perhaps the individual wasn't aware of such, but maybe he should have known before he spent top dollar on Streisand tickets. Anyone that knows Barbra knows she is and has always been very liberal.

There is a point where hecklers can cross the line. The guy that spat on Sen. Allen's wife should be punished.

As for the guy at the Streisand concert, he was voicing his opinion (freedom of speech) and it was a one time thing. He didn't continually nag her. I wouldn't have done anything. Streisand should just sing because that's what people came to see.

Hecklers used to have the right to free speech as used to be guaranteed under our Constitution. Since the passing of the Patriot Act, many hecklers can now be arrested as possible terrorists or threats to the general public. Hecklers, under the Patriot Act, can and will be arrested. How about the Bush free speech zone which is nowhere near the event? Hecklers used to have a place in sociey. Hecklers often just express a different point of view. Now you can be arrested if your point of view or "heckling" is considered subversive. I think it takes alot of courage these days to be a heckler. Should we reprimand or punish hecklers...maybe...ask the government.
