Hey Sunshine,

To me, beauty is nature, natural, not trash, symmetry, water flowing, leaves falling, fish swimming, waves flowing, and of course this includes women.

I came to look at this question just to confirm that people as usual are all avoiding the issue or ignoring the question. Why oh why when someone asks about beauty does everyone start on this inner beauty emotional kindness and heart stuff. Is everyone so scared to face the fact that beauty is a visual thing which some people and some things have but others don't. It has nothing at all to do with the quality of ones heart. It is quite possible to be absolutely beautiful and totally evil.

Buy a dictionary and don't be scared of the question.

I believe that beauty isn't as simple as as a person's looks. It comes from within. I've known a person who was literally deformed and not what most people would call beautiful & yet when this person smiled he lit up the whole room. It was the most beautiful thing! He was the kindest person I ever knew.
Likewise I've seen a physically beautiful animal that was vicious and thought how ugly it seemed.
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I prefer to look inside.

I'm afraid beauty is too big a concept to define absent context. Many people have told you they define it in a spiritual and personality contexts. Your question, at first glance, makes me think of beauty in the context of attraction to the opposite gender. Then I feel a bit shallow for that having be the first idea about beauty that pops into my head. But not wanting to follow the crowd and parrot sentiments about lovely souls and goodness, my mind then travels to art: Paintings and Poetry. I've never been a big sculpture fan. I do like multi-media artwork. Okay, enough stalling.

Physical beauty in the opposite gender = a very symmetrical face and a figure that these days gets called fat, but I like to call "zoftig".

Physical beauty in my own gender = a very symmetrical face but with an aquiline nose. A svelte body, but one without sculpted muscle definition.

Painting = impressionist desert landscapes, with lots of purple and rose tones in the desert sky.

Poetry = Haiku, the stark expression of complex emotions in a mere seventeen syllables.

Beauty is something that moves you, when you see / hear / experience it. I
t can be a simple tiny thing like a colour, flower or a butterfly or somehow more complex; anyway when you try to put it to words, you always have the feeling you can't express the reason why it moves you the way it does. It feels special, and you just can't put your finger on the reason. Like the French say: 'un je ne sais pas quoi' (it has an 'I don't know what exactly')

Hey, another Sunshine! That's my name on here, too. Cool! As for your question, I feel that beauty comes from within. I've known people who most would view as physically ugly at first sight, but when I got to know them, their personalities were so beautiful that I soon saw them as beautiful. It goes the other way, too. I met a woman a few years ago that I thought was strikingly beautiful, but as I got to know her and saw how terrible she treated everyone, I soon could see NO beauty in her. In my opinion, physical beauty counts for nothing if there's no beauty from within.

Beauty is in everything, from the subatomic particles to the universe as a whole. We don't always recognize beauty but it is always there. The business and chaos of our minds usually blinds us to the beauty all around us.

Something is beautiful to me if I can see God at work in it. Like fall colors or this sight of a deer in the morning mist. Or the joy on the face of my wife as she sings praises to God. Or the delight on a young child's face at a new discovery. Forget all of the makeup, plastic surgery, and photograph airbrushing. Forget the movie stars and their made-up appearances. Beauty, like any other thing that is good in our world, comes from God.

To define it one needs to apply Einsteins theory of Relativity. Beauty is not Absolute. No object is universally beautiful. It is relative to the person viewing the object. One may find it beautiful one may find it ugly. Here instead of Time we have Beauty.
