Because intelligence, much like wealth, is a status symbol or an indication of power. Supposedly, the more you have (higher I.Q.) the farther you will go in life. That's often more theory than fact.

Funny, I hadn't noticed this. I think our intelligence is on the decline. All you need to do is watch TV marketing and see how the general public responds. Something on TV becomes a need to have item without any intelligence being engaged. All statistics indicate that in the US intelligence is on the decline. This is not the case in other nations so depending on where you are from this answer could be different. If you are referring to the USA, I dont see any emphasis on itelligence.

Do you prefer stupidity ? Employers prefer intelligent people instead of stupid. People prefer marrying intelligent rather than stupid. Intelligent friends are far more interesting that stupid ones. Intelligent drivers are far safer than stupid ones.
If you needed a very serious operation, would you hunt out the most stupid doctor ? Would you want the most stupid lawyer to handle your affairs?
Okay, sometimes our polititions sure act and sound stupid, but they're not grade school flunk-outs. They actually are quite intelligent in spite of some times seeming the opposite.
You can admire whoever you care to, I'll take intelligence.
