Well, I think things like the Catherine Tate Show are funny, and I have a good time watching them / it. I have to agree with you though about most things that are on tv though.
The person that really really annoys me is Gordon Ramsey. Its just f*** this and f*** that all the time! Why can't he learn to just keep that to himself for a change?
Also, little kids think that it's ok to swaer to their parents after watching stuff on tv after 9, which gets them into trouble.
Anyway - my thoughts........

I suppose that now it's allowed to be used, programme makers think it is more realistic to use it a lot. I find it really offends me if there is too much gratuitous swearing and I often turn programmes off if there's too much bad language. It's also the major reason I don't watch reality TV shows - the morons they use don't seem to have a very good command of the English language. I've also noticed that most people think it's quite acceptable to swear a lot in daily life. I rarely swear and I'm proud to say that my two daughters (ages 16 and 25) have never actually heard me swear.

A lack of intelligence. Very few people seem to appreciate the oldies any more. I don't find it particularly funny when people can't form a basic sentence without using the "F" word somewhere in there. It's the same with sex scenes, I'm not a prude but is it really necessary to have the full gory scene every time?

I agree there does seem to be an unnecessary amount of swearing on TV but there is in real life too! If you find the content of a programme offencive just switch it off, you can't change it or anything so that's the only option.
PS Eric and Ern were the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's because there isn't the talent about to make people laugh, without swearing. Also the people that are "selling" programs have to keep one step ahead all the while, be more outrageous, more offensive. Young people too think it's cool to be offensive, that's why they like it. I like the old humour, old films, old most things,........including Eric n Ernie. :-)

I am guessing it is used because as a rule, people want more realistic television. If you bang your thumb with a hammer you are perhaps more likely to say f*** than "oh gosh, that stung a tad"
Same with bedroominal activities. Fancy a f*** is more likely to be used, then "would you like to make sexual congress with me this evening good wife"?
It is a VERY common word in popular usage, its use on television accurately reflects that fact.

Hear hear, i totally concur with you, i believe most of the people using this foul language have,nt got a large enough vocabulary; and obviously cannot express themselves without swearing.

why not ? it is a beautiful use of our language when used correctly. the scene in planes, trains and automobiles where he has just found the car he rented wasn't in the parking spot it should have been and had to trudge all the way back across the airport. when he got to the rental office he launched into a tirade of f***ing as an adjective. the idiot at the desk said " do you have you the rental agreement ". he said, no as he had torn it up in frustration, leaving her the opportunity to say " then you're f***ed ". f***ing fantastic!

Swearing is funny, when someone in a film starts talking tough with swear words, I'm in hysterics!
