My sister in law, Told me to get like a Pilates ball (One of the HUUGGGEEE round balls) and sit on it, and rock back and forth, That it would help my cervix dilate....Is this true? Anyone tried it? Or even heard of it?
I just got back from my 38wk appt. and I'm only dilated 2cm, And he said my cervix was still pretty thick and long. *sigh*
I'm READY TO HAVE HER!! Lol!

According to the Dr. her head is pretty far down..He said if he pushed on my tummy anymore (while doing the vaginal exam) that he would actually be touching her head...Lol, So her head is down there, Just waiting to dilate more!

I used a birthing ball like you're talking about before labor and during, it made it a lot easier!! It takes the pain away, well for the most part, and it helps your cervix open up. If you can do this jump on the chance. I would do it again in a heartbeat! I will be doing it again in May, it's a wonderful tool to use!

There are lots of exercises you can do on a pilates ball, sometimes called a birthing ball to help with childbirth.
They help align your spine and relax your pelvis, they may help dilate the cervix. HOWEVER...
Your baby wil not come until she is ready. Please respect your baby enough to let her decide when she is ready. Some babies really do need some extra time even 40 weeks is not long enough for a few. And remember "due dates" are estimates not actual due dates like for an assignment or something, and they aren't best before dates either ;)
Try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Do the things you won't be able to do with a little baby... like leave the house without 30 minutes of prep work.
Congrats and good luck.

I know your ready to have the kid, i was too, it is horrible to wait any longer... but for the health of you and your baby a pilates ball is probably not your best bet. With you streching and moving it could cause the baby to press on the umbilical cord, cutting off its oxygen supply, causing stress and maybe even complications... I tried bowling, and it worked... standing as much as possible is your best bet, gravity is your best friend in helping get that cervix going, also having semen on your cervix will soften it, there are things in semen that can start dialation, and even sex can start contractions. Good luck with everything, and i hope all go's well. (ps nipple stimulation can also cause contactions in some people)

With my first two pregnancies, even at my 40 week appt. I hadn't dialated at all...just hang in there! I don't know if the ball actually helps you dialate, but it does help the baby move down into a better position and into the birthing canal...which in turn can make you dialate. many women use a birthing ball (or exercise ball) while in labor to help the baby move down, and I have heard many great things about it! Give it a try!

I had a beautiful home water birth just 2 months ago, and I used the "birthing ball" for pain relief more than anything else! Because everybody births differently and is comforted by different things, it is hard to say exactly what will be of benefit to you during birth. It is really nice to have different things to try though. Good Luck!

Yeah actually that is true. I was watching this show on tv once where this girl wasn't dilating so she was sitting on this huge ball...just rocking back and forth. So not much long after that, she gave birth. It was pretty cool. I was amazed that that technique worked...so you should definitely try it out if your ready.

They say that the only way this would help is if you are in labor but its worth a try but if your body and the baby is not ready it won't happen. You are making progress but everything is totaly up to you body when the time will be. Talk to your doctor and see if he has any suggestions on how to speed things up but he might tell you to just let it happen naturally.
Good Luck and Best Wishes

My 2nd child was 2 weeks late in coming, and you know what helped? Doctor suggested I had a full meal, take a nice hot bath, and do that thing that made the baby. Well, after all that fun, I was in labour that very same night :-) I actually didn't even know I was in labour as I had no pain.Only felt a HUGE need to pee but nothing came. It was then that hubby got exited and whisked me off to hospital, and the rest as they say is history.

You can use the pilates ball or just do squats. (Stand with your legs as far apart as comfortable for you put your hands on your knees and sit on air) it worked for me but i wasnt all the way dilated when i went in the hospital but i know both work
Good Luck and Congrats
God Bless
