Since you say nicest -- not most beautiful -- I will approach the question as though you are asking about the people.
In this case I would say that Hawaii is NOT the nicest since most people there seem to have a chip on their shoulder and if you aren't from Hawaii you are not equal to them. If you are Caucasian they will refer to you as a "howlie" which is a racist term meaning without color/ghost/or white devil. This is a sad, but indisputable fact that you can only learn through the interaction with Hawaiians.
For historical reasons I will say that Tahiti (owned by France, in French Polynesia) is the nicest island in the world. It has all the beauty of Hawaii (including people) and also is renowned for being very nice, which is surprising since France owns it ;)
There are famous mutinies that resulted from landings in Tahiti. The crews found the place to be a paradise with perfect weather and beautiful women. When the captain would order them to leave they would mutiny instead!

Several candidate come to mind, e.g. Ireland, Mull, Vieques, Monhegan, Nantucket... Hawaii is way overrated - Oahu is a crowded mess and a big part of the Big Island consists of amazingly ugly lava fields, although the NE side is reasonably pretty when there isnt a tour bus blocking your view. What do you like? Pine trees or palm trees? Sand or rocky coast? Warm or bracing?

I think Dominican Republic, I was born there, and the water is always warm in the Beach and the sand is white and you can see craps and palm tress with coconuts. The rivers are warm as well and nice, and there are places with water falls...and is a lovely island and the people are nice as well.
