Fingernail polish remover works on some but you have to test it out on a small area to make sure it doesn't "melt" the mtl.

Also try fabric softner sheets.

No promises of this working, but I went out and bought one of those Mr Clean Magic Erasers, and it took the black scuff marks off my red patten leather shoes in no time, also worked on all my other shoes, and various walls and things in my house that needed a good cleaning, and i think at wal-mart it cost me one dollar... so if it doesn't work for you It's not like you wasted a ton of money

Try using a fine grade rubbing compound sold at auto supply stores to remove scuff marks from car finishes.

I use a cotton ball with a little nail polish remover on it. This works great with white shoes that have black scuff marks too. It also works on your car when you get someone else's paint on the door when they park too close.

I have never tried this but I know it works well on floors etc. I would try an Ajax Eraser pad. They are white pads that remove almost anything. Be really careful and do it lightly so that you don't damage the shoe

Goof off or windex multi-surface cleaner. Nail polish remover would probably take it off but may damage the shoe.

You can still use normal red shoe polish, you just may have to repeat it.
