The season 1974-75 of the European Cup football (soccer) club tournament was won by for the second consecutive time by Bayern Munich in the final against Leeds United. Many Leeds United fans feel disgruntled due to Refereeing Decisions made during the final. Peter Lorimer had an effort disallowed due to an offside decision given against captain Billy Bremner. The the referee also turned down two English claims for a penalty firstly when Franz Beckenbauer looked to have handled the ball inside the penalty area and then when the Bayern captain tripped Alan Clarke. In respose to these decisions Leeds fans ripped out seats at the Parc des Princes. This resulted in Leeds receiving a three-year European ban.
When you talk about bribes I had a cousin once who played for Wolves. They had to play Leeds in the last match of the season and if Leeds won they would be champions. A member of the Wolves team was approached by a member of the Leeds team on the pitch (No names) and suggested that it would be worth £1000 a man if they lost (a fortune in those days). He reported this to his team mates who were shocked and went on to beat Leeds who finished runners up.

The Wolves bribe story is exactly that. A story. Billy Bremner received £100,000 in damages after a short libel case. If Leeds were such rogues and cheats then how come they won so little? Losing in many semi finals and finals. Occasionally in strange circumstances. 1973 European Cup Winners Final being the most obvious where the Greek referee was later investigated and found to have taken a bribe from AC Milan to fix the final. He was then banned. The 1975 European Final looks extremely strange too as 2 clear penalties denied to Leeds and Lorimer's goal was given and then disallowed after Beckenbauer had a word with the ref. Bremner was pushed into the offside position so it was a penalty if it wasn't a goal. Also he wasn't interfering with play as the ball flew into the top corner at 100 mph! No one interfered with it! Football was rife with match fixing then but to claim Leeds were guilty of and other clubs weren't is ludicrous. Anti Leeds bias is an illness in football.

This is what that has been going around. But given that the referee in 1984 for Forest v Anderlecht, admitted taking bribes, I won't rule this out.

I vaguely remember the game...it was pretty even. What have you heard, and can you substantiate it?
